How to Make Banana Bread Recipes
Posted in Diet Recipe Tips on May 17,2010

The very first bread recipe that was introduced in history goes way back 120 decades ago. Probably they have crushed their grains with the use of stones and added some water. Since they are using hot stones at the time for cooking this is also the same stuff that we attribute to the very first bread recipes. I can only imagine that the entire loaf would have been covered in burning ashes since the very method of cooking available back then is through hot stones.

The Egyptians during the 4000 BC found out that wheat dough goes through the process of fermentation that allows gas to build up during the bread making. Since then they have never prepared bread in any other means again aside from this one.

The cultivation and origin of bananas are known to be in the southeast parts of Asia. It has been known to abundantly grow in countries such as India and the Philippines. But these regions are more dependent on rice accompaniment for the majority of their meals. This is also the reason why they were not able to enjoy using wheat for the purpose of making bread recipes particularly banana breads even though such fruits are very much available in their country.

In history, it is said that Theophrastus who is a Greek naturalist philosopher was the very first to give a comprehensive detail of a banana tree during the early part of the century. He put it into writing that he enjoyed meals that are usually served with bread, fruits and spices. This was recorded to be way back in the era of Pliny. The recognition of banana tree during those times can be relative to the question of “who invented the very first banana bread recipe?” Could it be the Greeks? We can assume that they did since they were recorded in history to enjoy meals that are composed of breads and bananas.

Going to the Middle East countries, they are known to enjoy breads that come in flattened texture. Since their bread recipes do not involve leavening agents then it is possible that were not the ones responsible for coming up with the very first banana bread recipes.

In the course of making banana breads it would require leaving agents as other quick breads do. So looking back and determining the date of when leavening elements have come to life, we can trace it back around the ending years of the 18th century. In America, they were using leavening agent in the form of Pearlash. They obtained it from a refined form of potash that can produce carbon dioxide whenever it is mixed with dough.

In 1796, the cookbook with the title “American Cookery” was released by Amelia Simmons. Throughout the book she had prepared a lot of recipes that utilizes Pearlash. This is also the reason why Pearlash became an instant hit and was even requested to be exported in European countries. But for the record, during those times there weren’t any bread recipes that even came close to our banana bread recipe to date.

It could be a possibility that the very first banana bread recipe was made in 1857 since a lot of American housewives have utilized Pearlash in preparing various breads.
