How Italian Breads are Made
Posted in Diet Recipe Tips on May 17,2010

For every parts of the world you’d surely find their own brand and versions of bread recipes. For this particular article we would be talking of those breads that originated from Italy. Italian breads are characterized by their long texture with a crusty outer layer. Although this may not be the very standard since some of the breads from such country offers various shapes too.

The French may have adopted the Italian bread baking process or vice versa since the two are almost similar with each other. They can be different in some ways especially with the outer crust texture. The French prefers their crust to be less crunchy that those of the Italians. During the course of baking the holes are made with very few holes providing a smooth texture over the bread crust as well as from the insides. This is almost similar with the Italian ones but they limit the number of holes from the bread as much as they can.

If you are a novice baker and prefer to take on an Italian bread recipe you have to prepare the following: wheat flour, water, salt, yeast and a couple of olive oil drops. Adding olive oil into the recipe would hold all the ingredients together. This would allow a richer flavor for bread which has been inspired by the ideas from French recipes. If you prefer to make it a bit different from the usual variety add some poppy or sesame seeds over the top and all over the crust potion of the bread.

You need to baste the outer crust of the bread with water. You can either spread it or use a cooking spray container for this purpose. The coating of water would provide the chewy texture for the bread and rids of the hard sensation when biting on it.

Italian breads are traditionally cooked over stone oven but in this day and age the very common equipment you may find for this purpose is a baking stone. Just set your oven at preheat settings. This allows the perfect temperature for the bread when you start to bake them. This would take 30 minutes for a good oven to reach a 400 to 425 degree F setting. But before you set it for preheating make sure to confirm the settings your bread recipes require.

It is very usual for Italian breads to be baked for 45 minutes at a high oven setting. This of course varies with the requirements of your bread recipes and the size of the loaf you are going to bake so always make it a point to check on the details. The best means to determine whether your loaf is done use a wooden spoon to lightly hit the bread. If it makes a hallow sound then you don’t have to bake a minute longer.

People have always been fond of the Italian breads since it has varieties of uses. For one, it is a great side dish for your dinner and sandwich requirement. Even breads that are a day old can be consumed through toasting them. If you have leftovers make sure to store them well. Use plastic wrap. Though it may not be as chewy as it was when you took it out of the oven this would definitely allow longer life storage for your loaf.
