What Cabbage Soup Diet Can Do To You
Posted in Diet Recipe Tips on Mar 09,2010

The most salient feature of the Cabbage Diet Soup is that it allows you to lose weight swiftly in as short as 7 days. This led to its popularity which is why it is also called a fad diet. It is not advisable to undertake this diet because its ingredient has no nutritive value and lacking in the essential vitamins and minerals your body needs. It has an unpleasant taste and some people find it monotonous. The recipe is highly water based. Since all the pounds that you ingest is  liquid based, it follows that the weight that you will lose will not be body fat but will also be made up of water.

What You Should Know About The Cabbage Soup Diet

The following are bits of information for those who are interested to know more about the diet.

Ever heard of a diet that claims eating more means losing weight more? Well, that is the claim of the Cabbage Soup Diet. The dieter is required to eat as much soup as he can take. Actually, much of the intake is composed of water and it is also flushed out of the body with not much calorie retained in the process.

The Cabbage Soup Diet is identified with a tag line that goes “the more soup you eat the more weight you lose”. It sounds enticingly encouraging because this is an easy way to lose weight. People who are really dying to lose weight especially if they are preparing for an upcoming event choose this kind of diet. They want to look slim and at their best and appear presentable to friends and acquaintances.

Cabbage is the basic component of this diet. It possesses very minimal calorie properties. The recipe also claims that is a “fat burning soup”. The instruction is that the soup is to be taken with specific foods on each day of the diet’s duration. The vitamins and mineral your body requires is not met with the cabbage soup recipe. This is unhealthy and not good for the body since a well planned diet should be one that has a balanced proportion of the nutrients your body needs.  Moreover, cabbage is known to produce gas in the stomach and most people find this unpleasant and hard to deal with.

The diet is actually divided into a seven-day plan that includes eating a variety of different foods each day. Instructions are as follows:

First day:  Fresh fruits only with the exception of bananas, followed by drinking black coffee or unsweetened tea, cranberry juice and water.  All the cabbage soup that you can eat.

Second day: Raw or uncooked vegetables, baked potato with butter for dinner. Beans, peas and corn are not allowed.  All the cabbage soup that you can eat.

Third day:  All fruit and vegetables you can eat. Baked potato is not allowed. All cabbage soup you can eat.

Fourth day:  Bananas and skimmed milk. All cabbage soup you can eat.

Fifth day: Ten to twenty oz. of beef and up to six tomatoes. Six to eight glasses of water.

Sixth day:  Beef and vegetables. Baked potato is not allowed. All cabbage soup you can eat.

Day 7: Stuff yourself with brown rice, unsweetened fruit juices and veggies. Eat cabbage soup at least once. No bread, alcohol, or diet soda.

Seventh day:  Brown rice, sugar free juices and vegetables. Brad, alcohol or soda are not allowed. All cabbage soup you can eat.

Reasons for Not Doing the Cabbage Soup Diet

The cabbage soup diet as illustrated above is not very appealing. It has no sufficient nutritional content. As a rule of thumb, a well planned diet should be one that consists of all the food groups for a well balanced meal for a sound body. The cabbage soup diet has a very limited food list and the food combination is repetitive and boring.

Cabbage alone is a healthy vegetable but it is not nutritious enough for the body. The recipe should include foods from all the basic food groups to supply the body with balance nutrients.

For a diet to work effectively, it must be followed strictly from day one to its last day. The recipe must be followed with the right kind of ingredients as required in the diet. Complement the program with the right attitude and patience.

Fad diet like this is not a good way to lose weight. A conventional way to lose weight is by observing a good eating habit of choosing fruits and vegetables and eating less meat and fat coupled with a quality lifestyle and regular exercise.

Nevertheless, if you really want to try this diet, consult a health professional to determine if you are in the proper condition to go on with the diet. Otherwise, there are many other diet plans available that will help you lose weight in a healthier manner.
