Pancake Day – more traditionally known as Shrove Tuesday – falls on February 13 this year.
It originally marked a feast day ahead of 40 days of fasting. However, nowadays a lot of people just use it as an excuse to stuff their faces.
While most Brits opt for a more traditional crepe-style pancake recipe, American pancakes are also growing in popularity.
If you prefer thick, fluffy pancakes try this recipe from blogger Michelle Pearson.
She said: “This is not like heathy pancakes. This is not a lose weight situation. These are just made from scratch, homemade pancakes that I’ve been making for 11 years now.”
Two cups of buttermilk
Four Tbsp of oil
Two cups of flour
Two Tbsp sugar
Two tsp baking powder
One tsp baking soda
Half tsp of salt
Saddam HusseinÊÐ moustache may taste a bit ‘burny’
Mix all the ingredients in a bowl to create a thick, buttery-coloured mixture that is not runny.
Put your frying pan on a medium heat then pour a quarter cup of the mixture into the pan.
When the bubbles start to arise, this is when to flip them.
You can serve these with home made buttermilk syrup, maple syrup and bacon, berries, Nutella, or whatever you fancy.
